Film School: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

The Russo Brothers reveal their process of shooting, lighting and compositing in their third film within the MCU.

Avengers: Infinity War has been touted as the culmination of ten years of Marvel movies. As directors Joe and Anthony Russo explain to Vanity Fair, it’s also the combination of a range of film-making styles and techniques. Most interesting are the different ways the Russos’ background in shooting TV comedy series (including Arrested Development and Community) inform how they handle the episodic storytelling within this movie: from framing for comedic effect, camera and lighting choices to help “ground” the inherent ridiculousness of the scene, and how they shoot for and around CGI elements, from costume touch-ups to entire characters:
