Big respect for making me care about a bunch of white men in Texas shooting eachother.
More impressive: I dropped in to this about halfway through, and managed to pick up enough about character and stakes to engage me long enough to see how it all resolved – and to be rewarded with some beautiful cinematography and composition, c/o Giles Nuttgens (I’m baffled when an amazingly-lit film is covered with weird and awkward camera movements and zooms that look like afterthoughts).
Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges: two great performers giving great performances, and who (spoiler?) ultimately share an exchange that’s as riveting as it is understated.
